The BTEC Level 2 Performings Arts (Dance Approach) is taught in KS4.

There are three components in the qualification which give learners the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the Performing Arts industry and specialist skills and techniques.

Components 1 and 2 are assessed through internal assessment. They focus on:

Development of core knowledge and understanding of a range of styles and disciplines and the key features that contribute to these such as practitioners roles, responsibilities, skills and techniques.
Development and application of skills such as; practical and interpretative, rehearsal and performance in dance through workshops and classes.
Reflective practice through the development of skills and techniques that allow learners to respond to feedback and identify areas for improvement using relevant presentation techniques.

Component 3 is an external assessment that build directly on Component 1 and 2.
The design of this external assessment is based on a key task that requires learners to demonstrate that they can identify and use effectively an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge to respond to a brief and create a group performance for a selected audience.
It is set task under supervised conditions which is then marked and graded by Pearson.

The BTEC is equivalent to 1 GCSE.
