Our Ethos

The Priory School in Dorking is a voluntary-aided Church of England school. We are led by our ethos; that each and every student should feel valued, be recognised for their contributions and achievements in our community, and be supported toward fulfilling their absolute potential. Our teachers are committed to helping students progress and thrive, and our whole-school team educates for life in all its fullness.

This approach gives us a strong identity with values and ethics that we are proud of. Our status as a Church of England Voluntary Aided school both informs and aligns with our beliefs, and we are committed to bringing our ethos to all that we do. We keep our core values in the heart of everything we do, these include wisdom, hope, dignity and community. These pillars form the foundations we live by, and have helped our school grow into the high performing and nurturing environment it is today.

We are a learning school

We pride ourselves on helping students progress and thrive, and we do this by offering exceptional learning opportunities within a nurturing and safe environment.

We have a holistic approach

Learning opportunities can be found in a wealth of settings, both in school and in the community, and our teaching staff are exceptional at engaging and stimulating our students’ minds. Whilst academic rigour is essential, we pride ourselves on having a holistic approach. Confidence, self-belief and self-worth are incredibly important to a sense of well-being, and we believe that equipping our students in this way gives them a solid foundation upon which to build the rest of their lives.

We are at the heart of our community

Our school is nestled in the heart of Dorking, set within an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Surrey Hills. Our community ties us to our neighbours, to the local families we serve, to the wider local community in the Mole Valley, and on to our national network of Church of England schools. These bonds give our students opportunities and points of access to make a real difference to the lives of those around us, and we are proud of the meaningful ways they elect to make a difference in our community.
