Silver Award

Silver Opportunity

We are delighted to offer your son/daughter has opportunity to sign up to do their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). We will have a virtual student/parents meeting at the beginning of the new term, but I thought some advance notice would be helpful. It would allow students to continue or get started on their section choices and prepare for the expedition, which is at the end of September 2021. This is a quick turnaround and you can enrol from now. Final date for enrolment is Friday 17th September 2021.

As many of you will know, the DofE is a chance to gain new skills and interests, get fit, have fun and broaden your horizons. And, when they complete their programme, they will achieve a highly respected Award that can help open doors in the future. Silver will offer great personal development and will support college/Uni applications going forward. We would encourage those who have completed their Bronze and also those who did not take part in Y9, to take up this opportunity. You can join directly at Silver.

To enrol, complete the online application for silver here.

Please pay the initial £30 to register and £65 for the expedition in September. The information is on scopay. The remaining £65 for the final expedition will be due in April 2022. The total cost will be £160, should this be a barrier, please email myself and we will be able to look at options. As before, we are able to loan a lot of kit (Priory is very fortunate in this respect) which will help keep costs down.

If you have any questions regarding the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award please ask your son/daughter to speak to a member of the School DofE team or email Cath Tanton ctn@priorycofe.com.

Plans for the Silver Expeditions for Year 10

We have spent time planning this part of their Award carefully, to fit it in well with their GCSEs. The plan is as follows.

1st Septermber 2021

Begin sections on Silver once the form is completed and the payment for the place has been made. There will be a parent/student virtual meeting to discuss silver early in September.

30th September – 2nd October 2021

Silver training and practice expedition in the New Forest – basing ourselves at Harry’s Island near Burley.

29th June – 2nd July 2022

Assessed expedition in the White Peak. Starting point is at Glenbrook, near Hope (this is based on 40 students enrolling and might have to be reviewed if numbers are lower, choosing somewhere nearer to home).

Bronze Update

Many students are very close to completing their Bronze DofE. This is a fabulous achievement, particularly because the year has been so challenging. They have undertaken so many creative activities, helped their neighbours and community and learnt new ways to exercise in the lockdown periods. Our intention is to present certificates and badges during the last week of term. To check your child’s progress, ask them to show you their account at www.edofe.org  For those that have not yet completed, speak to your assessors and discuss your progress, give them your ID number and ask them to log onto www.dofe.org/assessor. It is then very straightforward.
