Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The DofE is a chance to gain new skills and interests, get fit, have fun and broaden your horizons. And, when you complete your programme, you’ll achieve a highly respected Award that can help open doors in the future, whatever you’re hoping to do.
The DofE is non-competitive and open to all young people – it’s about setting your own personal aims, overcoming your own challenges and pushing your own boundaries.
You’ll do four sections: Skills, Volunteering, Physical and Expedition for Bronze and Silver levels. You can choose your activities – either improving something you already do or discovering something completely new. At Gold level, an additional residential section is added to the Award.
During and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, participants who complete their Skills, Volunteering and Physical sections will receive a special DofE Certificate of Achievement – a formal recognition, by the DofE, of the efforts you’ve made and the skills you’ve gained at this extraordinary time.
When you go on to do your expedition, you’ll also achieve your DofE Award, certificate and badge.
DofE at The Priory
We have high aspirations for all our students. We believe DofE opens opportunities and gives students a chance to develop new skills, taking on new challenges along the way. In lockdown, 12 students wrote to the elderly/vulnerable in the area as part of their volunteering. Many took on the couch to 5K challenge over the summer as part of their physical. They have kept going, the vast majority completing their sections and receiving their Certificate of Achievement.
Students starting their Award in September 2021
In Year 9, the Bronze Award is offered, starting in September of the Autumn term. Expeditions take place in the Spring and Summer term 2022.
In Year 10, the Silver Award can be started in September of the Autumn term. You do not have to have taken part in the Bronze Award, as you can start as a ‘direct entrant’. Expeditions will take place in the Easter holidays 2022 and then in the summer term.
