The Priory Canon
Literary Canon
A literary canon is a set of books which is viewed as ‘the best’ literature. The Priory literary canon is not just made up of ‘classics’; it is a range of books that are interesting, challenging and aim to promote inclusivity and diversity.
Outside of the Tutor reading programme and reading in lessons, students are expected to read widely, and our canon is a guide for what they should aim to read during their time at the Priory. We hope to start students off a reading journey that will last throughout school and into adulthood.
We hope that parents and students enjoy the challenge.
Ways we aim to embed our core values through the Priory Canon:
Wisdom
to increase our knowledge and understanding of words and how to use them, as well as to understand history and expand our cultural knowledge.
Hope
to prepare us for challenging futures by opening up our imaginations, and improving concentration, self-discipline and consistency.
Dignity
to give us an outlet for our emotions, a way to consider things, and a way to destress.
Community
to teach us to respect others and understand common links and goals by learning about the world around us, and experiences outside of our perspective.
Reading the Canon
Canon loyalty cards are available from the LRC. Students can achieve a sticker for every canon book they read, and a reading pin for every completed loyalty card. The pins progress from bronze through to gold.
This is a test line.
